Every day we tune in to the same old "garbage" on the Sci Fi channel because we have no choice, or do we??? The Sci Fi channel is proof. Its very existence proves that there is a huge demand for science fiction on television that is NOT being met. We faithfully tune in every day for repeats of our old favorites. Do we have a choice in what we watch? Not if we let them tell us it's what we have to settle for and don't let them know what we want. Then, it would be our fault for not speaking up, for not raising a flag and saying, "Hey! This isn't what we want to watch! We want quality, give us what we want or else!" Many of us feel that the television executives don't understand what it is we want to view, but now it is time for us to tell them!

What would Star Wars be without the Empire and Storm troopers? What would Flash Gordon be without Ming the Merciless? Why do they think that we want to see Battlestar Galactica without a Battlestar? The answer is because we haven't told them any different! It is now time for us to tell them, show them, that we won't stand for it anymore. By tuning in to the shows they give us, we ALLOW them to tell us what we want to see and what we have to settle for in the meantime.

Rumor has it that the Sci Fi channel (which currently owns the Television rights to Battlestar Galactica) is planning a new series that will NOT include a Battlestar, Cylons, or Colonial Warriors. They are talking about launching a series that excludes the CORE of what the series originally offered, why tolerate this? We can't. We need to stand up and make them listen.

ALL Science Fiction fans must stand up to them, not just those who are Battlestar Galactica fans. We must stand together, band as one, especially in the face of adversity. If we show them through our strength in numbers that we will NOT tolerate their lack of understanding, then we will not have to swallow any poor programming decisions they make, because we will have told them that we will fight back! Think about what would happen should a series you loved be revised without its original premise, core of what it is, wouldn't you appeal to all who share the same passions to help? YES! You would and all those who care would help. That is what we are asking you to do, help us tell them how we feel. Tell them we want quality!

Remember that Star Trek was brought back by a writing campaign many years after the original series was canceled. That proves our voices can make a difference, but writing in is not enough. The only way is a show of protest, let's show them through their ratings that we want more and better, that we won't settle for "status quo" anymore.

On March 16th, the Sci Fi channel will be premiering the new season of its most highly proclaimed and rated show, FARSCAPE. What we are asking is for everyone to tune OUT on that day. Show them that we are willing to give up one of their best shows in order for them to see that we are serious about our intentions of not allowing them to feed us "same old, same old" anymore. When they receive their poor ratings for their biggest show and see the voices of the people have spoken, then we will have taken a stand and make ourselves be heard. Without a show of strength in numbers, we will be forced to accept whatever they dole out to us no matter how horrible. We are hungry for good Science Fiction, let's make them hungry for US!
