The Battlestar Galactica Fan Club Co-President Shawn O'Donnell "BGR" (bgresurrection_1999@yahoo.com) recently spoke with
Debbie McNaughton from British Columbia, Canada. She helps run the Battlestar Columbia
and she is active in the efforts to revive the show.
BGR: To Start with, what are your first memories of
Battlestar Galactica
DM: The first memory is of Lorne Greene... I used to
watch him all the time on Bonanza.
I can remember his beautiful voice from that show and
of course the cuteness of Richard Hatch and Dirk
Benedict.
BGR: What was your first impression of the show?
DM: Well...I loved it!
I immediately fell in love with Richard Hatch and Dirk
Benedict of course!
Just a very exciting show.
BGR: Why do you think Battlestar Galactica endures
with the fans?
DM: Because it is a family show and there is love as
well as laughter.
There is a message about the meaning of family life.
As an example: The relationship between Commander
Adama and his children and Apollo with Boxey caring
for each other, and of course the other survivors.
BGR: Do you have a favorite episode?...and why?
DM: Yes, I do.."The Man With Nine lives" again it
shows about family life and caring.
BGR: Do you a favorite character?...and why?
DM: Well, two of them actually. Apollo and Starbuck.
Apollo: (aside from being loving and cute) cares for
the people around him.
Starbuck: This character is crazy, cute and stubborn
all rolled into one...and he does care for his
"family".
BGR: What do you think of Richard Hatch's efforts to
revive Battlestar Galactica?
DM: I think it's great! I am in FULL support of
Richard and if there's any which way I can help...he's
got it!
I do believe he WILL SUCCEED in this project.
I have full faith in him and his team.
BGR: Let's also talk about your Fan Club there in
British Columbia...how did that get it's start?
DB: Well, it started when I first got on the internet
and started talking to Drew (Michaels) and to Jack
(Stauffer)...this was about the same time that I began
reading on the various Battlestar Galactica sites that
you guys were looking for support to bring back the
show.
So of course I felt it in my heart to help...I got
Doug Bailey (my fiancee) involved, got a proposal
together and took it to Simon Fraser for Community
Living.
When we presented it to them they were excited about
starting up Science Fiction Club...and they are just
as excited today!
They are always asking me when the next meeting is!
BGR: What are you trying to accomplish with the club?
DM: To support Richard Hatch with his ideas and help
show (through Simon Fraser for Community Living) that
people with handicaps are not limited...that we are
people too and can do!
I work with these people as well as being handicapped
myself...I feel like I'm a voice here for all of these
people.
To me Battlestar Galactica represents an ideal to look
forward to and helps to give hope to people in all
circumstances.
Thank you all for your work in getting the show
back...from the bottom of our collective hearts!
BGR: What advice do you have for people who want to
organize local Battlestar Galactica
Clubs/Groups/Organizations?
DB: Simply get involved with a local group of science
fiction lovers!
This is a good cause...we here in British Columbia
love Battlestar Galactica!
BGR: Big question! What do you see for Battlestar
Galactica in the future?
DB: I see it coming back to Television and the Big
Screen again...!
Let me just say...Battlestar Galactica Lives Forever!
