10 January 2001 UPDATE
http://www.battlestargalactica.com
Greetings, everyone,
It's our hope to someday soon announce the return of
"Battlestar Galactica." Specifically, "Battlestar Galactica:
The Second Coming" with the original cast,
crew, themes -- plus some new ones, too.
Regrettably, reliable sources have indicated that the
Sci-Fi Channel (U.S.) has recently considered bringing
back "Battlestar Galactica." And may be proceeding with
a new production effort at this time.
In a nutshell:
- A new "Battlestar Galactica" with various ships of
the fleet, but no battlestar. No, we're NOT kidding.
- A main starship with biodomes. (The "new" Galactica?
An unintentional retread of "The Starlost"??)
- NO involvement from Richard Hatch nor Glen A. Larson.
Additionally, SciFi.com's S.C.I.F.I. World has posed the
question this week. The timing is TOO coincidental: "How
viable would a new Battlestar Galactica series be today?"
Make your voices heard LOUD and CLEAR. Tell them what
you want. Be specific. Tell friends, family, co-workers,
colleagues, etc. The Sci-Fi Channel appears to be
listening, to a degree. Be pro-active.
We're VERY serious about this.
http://www.scifi.com/scifiworld/
We want to STRONGLY recommend that you speak up. If you
have ever wanted "Battlestar Galactica" brought back --
and brought back properly -- speak your peace NOW.
One last thought:
Considering the last U.S. Presidential election: Make
your vote COUNT. Don't write to BattlestarGalactica.com
-- write to the Sci-Fi Channel. Make your voices heard.
If you really believe in Richard Hatch's efforts, give
them *additional* meaning.
Thank you,

P.S. Contrary to anyone's statements, this is NOT a
ploy to get support for the Revival Campaign of
Battlestar Galactica. This is a serious message to let
everyone know that the Sci-Fi Channel is considering
a new series -- and one which does NOT involve
Richard Hatch, whom is trying to preserve/maintain/
bolster the spirit of the original series.
RED ALERT AT THE SCI-FI CHANNEL! IT'S MAKE-OR-BREAK TIME!
Echoing the statements above, please note that the
Sci-Fi Channel is considering a new "Battlestar
Galactica" which has NOTHING to do with the original
series.
Make your voices heard!

"More Scorpion Coming"
Based on the ratings success of The SCI FI Channel's
original series Black Scorpion, producer Roger Corman
will now produce and finance 44 additional episodes,
Variety columnist Army Archerd reported. The series
airs Fridays at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET/PT.
Archerd reported that Corman will pony up $44 million
for the new episodes. Twenty-two episodes have
already been filmed, starring Michelle Lintel.
Now, answer this:
-- Richard Hatch has the financial backing to proceed
with production on a new "Battlestar Galactica: The
Second Coming" series, continuing the adventures from
the classic, original series. Roger Corman appears to
be self-financing "Black Scorpion" -- and the Sci-Fi
Channel is distributing it. 44 episodes, too, mind you with $44 million quoted above.
-- Richard Hatch has demonstrated what the fans want
with his "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming"
4-1/2 minute trailer. Even non-fans and new fans have
been overwhemingly *impressed*, *glowingly positive*
and *enthusiastic* with screenings in the U.K.,
Australia, United States and Canada.
-- While not a producer by trade, Richard Hatch has
various professional Hollywood producers whom are
READY to work with him on "Battlestar Galactica: The
Second Coming." Richard has creative vision; more
importantly, Richard has industry professionals
waiting to participate. Curious, Sci-Fi Channel? Set
up meetings with Richard; clarify that Sci-Fi Channel
can accomodate the television licensing for a new
"Battlestar Galactica" show -- AND let him explain it
further -- and SHOW YOU how this production can be
made.
So, while I support original sci-fi programming, such
as "Black Scorpion", I ask:
* Why aren't you taking Richard Hatch's efforts
seriously?
* Why aren't you listening to the fans?
* Why are you ignoring the big turnout of postings to
the SciFi.com bulletin boards?
* Why are you ignoring your SciFi.com online poll from
last summer, which had the largest response of ANY
Sci-Fi Channel poll with 5,110 votes. The poll's
winner: "Bring back Battlestar Galactica 'only with
Richard Hatch (Apollo).'"
* What facts are you missing? What facts can we
deliver to you?
Our e-mail address: webmaster@battlestargalactica.com
Or contact Richard's agent via the Screen Actors Guild
or Richard's production company, Su-Shann Productions
(using the e-mail address above, unless you happen to
have Richard's number handy.)
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regarding the Sci-Fi Channel "Battlestar Galactica" rumors... - 01/24/2001
1.) I find it interesting that the Sci-Fi Channel has not chosen to explain -- or explain away -- the
fans' reactions to a.) wanting a new series; and b.) the rumors of their plans for a new BSG series
sans the battlestar, etc.
2.) Editors of various science fiction entertainment web sites and print magazines have started to
explore the rumors, trying to get confirmation whether it's fact or fiction -- and why they aren't
listening to the fans.
From my point of view:
One newspaper tv editor (to remain nameless) plans to address the issue mid-summertime, when
he told me that there is a window of opportunity to discuss the matter with Ms. Hammer directly.
Again, two answers need to be provided: 1.) Why aren't you considering Richard Hatch's
"Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" efforts; and 2.) Are you producing a new "Battlestar
Galactica" (or "Battlestar Galactica"-inspired show)? If so, provide more details.
Another editor (to remain nameless) is "looking seriously into the matter" and has inquired with
the Sci-Fi Channel's marketing and publicity departments, to no avail. (Which I find to be curious,
considering he edits for a large publication which would be benfitting to the Sci-Fi Channel, as
they cover other Sci-Fi Channel projects... )
Other BSG webmasters have inquired with trade publications, newspapers and web sites, too.
We'll see what happens.
Another trade magazine in England is looking into the matter, although I would hope they start
with the U.S. Sci-Fi Channel offices, and not the U.K./European ones.
* note: I state "to remain nameless" -- I feel that it is not appropriate to give out the names as 1.)
they have not granted me permission to do so; and 2.) I will not jeopardize their professional
careers by citing their names here, when they may need to reach the Sci-Fi Channel for their job
functions -- and I don't wish to have them associated with our crusade to bring back "Battlestar
Galactica". They are independent of our efforts, and that gives them objectivity in their research
and reporting.
All-in-all: The rumors remain rumors as of 1/24/01. I believe they are founded in fact, based on
evidence that Ken Thomson and I have heard from different direct Hollywood sources. And, mind
you, unrelated to Richard Hatch.
Thank you,
Michael A. Faries
