The Birth of Cyberius
by Kristen Shaw

Cyberius' memory banks began the instant power first flowed through his shining new metal body. The Cylon Admiral's very first memory was a scan of his current surroundings: a Cylon Robotics Laboratory, two mainframe and six secondary computers, 126 Cylon body parts and casings, and four Cylons, two of the IL-series and two Silver Centurions.

The left IL spoke, "Cyberius, report status."

"Functional. 100% effectiveness. Status, green."

"Excellent. These two Centurions will escort you to your designated destination. You have a meeting with the Imperious Leader."

Without a word, Cyberius stood. Taking place between and just ahead of the two Silver Centurions, the newest member of one of the most advanced caste of Cylons wasted no time making his way to the Imperial Throne Room.

"Unit Cyberius, reporting as ordered," he said tonelessly as he stopped before the tall pinnacle.

High up top, a throne slowly turned about, revealing the shadowy figure of the Imperious Leader seated in the high-backed chair.

"Unit Cyberius, you are hereby designated Admiral in the Cylon Alliance. You will immediately take command of the Cylon Twelfth Battle fleet currently in orbit. Your first assignment will be as follows. Proceed to the planet Gamoray. Once there, you will eradicate all of the life forms known as man and destroy the Delphian Empire. You will do this for the Cylon Alliance."

"By your command."

"Now carry out my command."

Without a word, Admiral Cyberius turned and left. His will was single-minded. He would proceed on his mission and would not cease until it was completed...

The doors to the throne room on the Baseship Hades slid open, allowing a Gold Centurion to enter. "By your command."

"Speak," said Cyberius, coming into view as his seat turned about.

"We have entered the Delphi star system and are within striking range of Gamoray."

"Very well. Let the attack begin. Let there be no human spared."

Dozens of Cylon fighter craft launched in squadrons from the fleet of Baseships approaching Gamoray. Warships of the Delphian Empire rose up to meet them in orbit, but they were vastly outnumbered. The few large ships fielded by the Gamorans were quickly annihilated by the heavy firepower of the Baseships' main guns.

Within an hour, the space battle was over. Stopping only to refuel and reload, the Cylon fighter craft proceeded downwards, relentless waves of fighters smashing cities and towns, razing them to the ground. In less than a day, the Colonial's strongest ally in this part of the galaxy had been completely annihilated in a surprise attack. There was no hope for survival. The Cylons were far too efficient...

The Cylon Twelfth Fleet was still there when the colony ships arrived. The Imperious Leader had wasted no time in repopulating the planet with a shining model of Cylon machinery. Eventually though, Admiral Cyberius received a recall notice. Leaving the rest of the fleet behind, he departed for the Cylon capitol. His departure was synonymous, however, with the arrival of a new threat... Even as he left, his Baseship's sensors had identified the newcomer: a Colonial war fleet, making an unscheduled visit to their now-former allies, the Delphian Empire. In fact, it was none other than the Battlestar Pegasus, flagship of the Sixth Fleet, which even now accompanied the Pegasus.

Cyberius' first thought was to turn back and lead the Twelfth Fleet in battle against the Colonial fleet. However, his recall had been a direct order from the Imperious Leader himself, for a very special assignment. He could not delay. While he missed the battle personally, later reports had filled his memory banks. The Colonial Sixth Fleet had been taken by surprise by the Cylon Twelfth. They certainly hadn't expected the Cylons at their ally's home world. While the Cylons had suffered significant casualties, in the end they won. The Colonial Sixth Fleet was annihilated, and only the Pegasus had managed to escape. And they expected to hunt it down soon. All thoughts of this battle, however, were put aside as Cyberius learned of his newest assignment.

There were several Admirals in the Leader's throne room this time. Cyberius was the 'youngest' present.

"Soon, we will mark the day of the final eradication of the life form known as Man. With the destruction of the Delphian Empire, only the Twelve Colonies remain. Their fleet of Battlestars has withheld us for some time... but now the end is near." He paused, then continued. "Through a Colonial named Baltar, we have established a 'Peace Treaty' with the Twelve Colonies. At a point distant from their home worlds, we will meet with their assembled fleet of Battlestars. However, we will not meet with Peace Envoys. Under cover of a nearby energy cloud, we will be waiting with twenty squadrons of fighter craft. They will refuel on the far side of the cloud using fuel tankers. This is because our Baseships will be busy elsewhere... launching a second wave of fighters against the Twelve Colonies themselves. While we annihilate their Battlestars in a surprise attack, their Colonies will be defenseless and will be quickly destroyed. I will be leading the attack on the Colonies personally..."

Within days, it was ready. The plan had come to fruition: the Colonials had fallen for the ruse and had left their home worlds undefended, while their fleet moved unknowingly into a trap. It would be a glorious day indeed. Admiral Cyberius stood in the bridge of his Baseship, watching as they approached the Colonies. He waited patiently, as only a Cylon could.

Finally, the word came. "Let the attack begin," said the Imperious Leader, and so it did.

"Launch all fighters," ordered Cyberius. Within moments, waves of fighter craft poured out of the fighter bays, shooting towards the undefended home worlds of Man. If Cylons could smile, then Admiral Cyberius would have. For he was watching what he thought was the end of all Mankind...
